2 c. flour
4 t. baking powder
4 T. butter
1 T. sugar
3/4 c. milk or plain yogurt or either combined with water

  1. Mix together dry ingredients
  2. Cut in butter
  3. Gradually add milk
  4. Roll out 1/2 inch thick
  5. Use a biscuit cut or a glass to make shapes or just cut with a knife
  6. Preheat oven to 450° F.
  7. Place biscuits on an ungreased cookie sheet or on a glass pie plate
  8. Bake for 12 - 15 minutes or until the tops are slightly golden brown

Variation: Biscuits can be topped with a piece of sugar cube that has been dipped in milk and pressed into the top of a square biscuit.

To make Cinnamon Biscuits:
Make one and one half times the recipe above
Roll out dough thinner and into a rectangle that is wider than it is deep
Spread with melted butter
Sprinkle with cinnamon - sugar mixture and chopped nuts (pecans are best)
Roll up the dough making a long roll
Slice into pieces about 2.5 inches wide
Place pieces in dish, but not too close as they expand when baking
Bake as above
